What Makes This One Different
DEWALT already had a track saw. The 60V FLEXVOLT version has been around for years and it is a good saw. What makes the 20V worth talking about is not that it exists, it is what they added while they were building it.
The KICKBACK BRAKE System
This is the headline feature and it is part of the DEWALT PERFORM & PROTECT lineup. If the saw detects a pinch, a stall, or a bind up, it shuts down immediately. Anyone who has had a track saw grab in a piece of stock that closed up on the blade knows exactly why that matters. The 60V has a mechanical anti-kickback mechanism and a riving knife, which work, but this is an electronic system that reacts before you can.
Variable Speed From 2,500 to 5,400 RPM
Full range speed control means you can back the blade down for melamine, laminate, and thin sheet goods where a fast blade chips the face, then wind it up for ripping solid hardwood. The 60V has variable speed too, but the 20V publishes the actual range, and that spread covers about everything you will throw at it.
94% Dust Capture and WIRELESS TOOL CONTROL
DEWALT rates dust capture at up to 94 percent, up from the 90 percent figure on the 60V saw. More interesting is the WIRELESS TOOL CONTROL, which starts your vacuum when you pull the trigger. No reaching over to flip the extractor on, no running the vac the whole time you are setting up a cut. That does require the DWV015 dust extractor and a vacuum, both sold separately.
Accuracy Within 1/32 of an Inch
DEWALT is claiming repeatable straight cuts within 1/32 of an inch. That is a spec worth testing rather than taking on faith, and I intend to, but it is the number they are putting their name on.
Runtime and What You Get in the Kit
The kit ships with a 20V MAX XR 8Ah battery, which DEWALT rates at up to 70 cuts or up to 280 linear feet of rip cutting in 3/4 inch MDF. For a weekend of breaking down sheet goods, that is more than enough on a single pack.
20V XR vs the Older 60V FLEXVOLT
This is the real question for anybody already in the DEWALT ecosystem, because the 60V DCS520T1 is still on the shelf and the same $100 off applies to it through September 30.

So Which One Should You Buy?
Run the math on track, because that is where the price gap closes fast. The 60V kit looks $170 cheaper, but it ships with no track at all. Once you buy the track you need, you are into similar money, and you still do not have the kickback brake, the published speed range, the higher dust capture, or the wireless vac trigger.
Buy the 20V if you are already on 20V MAX batteries, if you want the newest safety and dust features, or if you are starting from zero and want everything in one order. Buy the 60V if you are already deep in FLEXVOLT, you have track on hand from another saw, and you want the lowest possible entry price on a saw that has been proven for years.

Why a Track Saw Belongs in a Small Shop
If you have ever wrestled a full sheet of plywood onto a table saw by yourself, you already know the argument. A track saw brings the tool to the material instead of the other way around. You lay the track on the line, plunge, and cut. No outfeed support, no help needed, no sheet tipping off the back of the saw halfway through.
The zero clearance edge on the track gives you a splinter free line on the good side, and because you are cutting to a line you laid out rather than a fence measurement, layout mistakes get easier to catch before you cut. For anybody working out of a garage or a one car shop, it is the single tool that opens up cabinet and furniture work.

DEWALT did not just port the 60V saw onto a smaller battery. They added an electronic kickback brake, pushed dust capture to 94 percent, put a real speed range on it, and threw 60 inches of track in the kit. For a shop already running 20V MAX, this is the easiest yes on the list.
If you are going to buy it, buy it before September 30. A hundred dollars off a saw that has not even shipped yet is not a deal that comes around twice.
