Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 720Pro Isn’t Great! I Made It Better!

Kreg 720Pro Review.png

The Kreg Jig 720Pro needs improvements. I think it is poorly designed based on how flimsy it feels and how the storage compartment door can’t be raised if you have the dust extraction connected. It looks cheap and feels cheaper. Here is my review.

I was sent this Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 720Pro by my friend Mike from Woodcraft 716. Mike wanted to know my thoughts on the new Kreg pocket hole jig since I had been using the Kreg K5 for so long. Check out the video review below where I go into detail about the Kreg 720Pro versus the Kreg K5.

A little backstory, I have been a Kreg fan for a long time. I’ve have the Kreg K5 and have used it for over three years. It has been a great tool to have in the shop. It’s built solid and has withheld a lot of abuse. I've drilled more pocket holes than I can count. It’s a good product.

The Kreg 720Pro is bad. It is poorly designed. Cheap materials used in its manufacturing. It looks cheap and feels cheaper. The spring clamp mechanism feels jinky. When you operate the clamp you can feel and hear the cheap spring collapse and release. The K5 clamp was a lever system that was always solid. The side wings on the Kreg 720Pro are a cheap plastic that flex and move easily. Attaching them to jig with the supplied hardware (if you can call it hardware) is mediocre at best. It’s cheap plastic connected to cheap plastic so the wings move and flex to and fro. They really missed the mark on this jig.

This product could have been so much better. That’s probably why it is so disappointing. Kreg’s products are usually made well, using a high quality plastic. The plastic used in this jig feels different than what is on their other products that I have. It’s softer, more pliable plastic.

If you’ve been looking to get the new Kreg 720Pro Pocket-Hole Jig, I’d recommend skipping this version and grabbing the Kreg K5 while you still can. Kreg has discontinued the K5 model so they won’t be available much longer. I’ve also heard good things about the Armor Tool Auto-Jig Pocket Hole System and am working on getting one to review. Stay tuned.
