KREG Just Changed Wood Joinery FOREVER!

By Matt Outlaw  ·  731 Woodworks  ·  July 20, 2026

The Kreg Edge might be one of the biggest woodworking tool releases of the last decade. Kreg just dropped a cordless loose tenon joiner that goes head to head with the Festool Domino at a fraction of the price. I flew up to Des Moines to be one of the first people to get hands on it, and this is the full first look.

The Kreg Edge runs on the Kreg 20V Blue Ion battery platform, so it shares batteries with the Kreg 20v Rebel Pocket Hole Joiner, the Kreg 20v Track Saw, and the rest of the Kreg 20V lineup. Below is the full walkthrough of the Kreg Edge features, followed by the tools that share its battery system.

Kreg Edge Loose Tenon Joiner First Look

Micro Adjust for Material Thickness

The Kreg Edge adds something the Festool Domino does not have. A micro adjust for material thickness sits right on the fence.

The gauge is marked in imperial units, so you can set it to 3/4 inch and go. If your stock is not exactly 3/4 inch, you flip it to the manual setting and dial it in by hand. That lets you perfectly center a mortise even in odd thickness stock.

A metric version of the slider is included in the box for woodworkers who prefer to work in millimeters.

Dust Collection Slots and No Vacuum Required

The Kreg Edge has dust collection slots on the bottom of the tool. That means you can run it without a vacuum hooked up.

If you plan to cut a lot of mortises in one session, you can still add dust collection through the port. Kreg gives you the choice. The Festool Domino requires a vacuum to run at all.

For hobby woodworkers and small shop guys who do not want to drag a vacuum around, this is a real upgrade.

On Tool Wrench and Tool Free Cutter Changes

Kreg built a wrench holder directly into the Kreg Edge, so the wrench is always with the tool. That solves a small but real annoyance of hunting for a wrench mid project.

The stops pop out and back in tool free, with an inch and a half setting and a 1 inch setting from center of the blade. Cutter changes use the on tool wrench and the cutter slides in and locks in place. It is a clean design that keeps everything on the tool.

Cutters are available in 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm. Kreg cutters are cross compatible with the Festool Domino, and Festool cutters will run in the Kreg Edge.

Plunge Depth, Tenon Width, and Vertical Stabilizer

Plunge depth adjusts on the side of the tool in metric units, since the tenons themselves are metric. The width of the mortise adjusts on top of the tool, giving you tight, medium, or wide settings for tenon fit.

A vertical stabilizer attaches to the back of the tool for vertical work. When you are cutting mortises into the face of a board for a 90 degree joint or a fixed shelf, the stabilizer keeps the tool square. Positive detents on the adjustments make setup fast and repeatable.

The base of the Kreg Edge is about a third larger than the Festool Domino, and the fence is wider and longer for more stable references.

Narrow Stock Guide and Alignment Diamonds

Kreg includes a narrow stock guide that slides out and locks to the front of the tool. That lets you center mortises in narrow stock like 1 inch or 1-1/2 inch material without freehanding it.

Alignment diamonds sit on top of the fence and line up with the stops when your reference is square. If the tool is twisted or the fence is off, the diamonds show it before you plunge. Small feature, but it saves bad cuts.

The Kreg Edge ships in a foam cutout that drops into a Milwaukee Packout, a DEWALT Toughsystem case, or a Festool Systainer.

Kreg Edge Pricing

The Kreg Edge lands at $449 for the bare tool and $499 for the combo kit with a battery. The Festool Domino DF 500 typically runs around $1,500 depending on the kit.

That price gap is the whole story. It opens loose tenon joinery to a huge group of woodworkers who could never justify the Festool. Kreg also has upgrade paths and the tool runs on the same Blue Ion battery that powers the rest of the Kreg 20V lineup below.

If you want to build into the Kreg 20V platform alongside the Kreg Edge, these are the tools that share the same battery.

Kreg 20V Blue Ion Cordless Tool Lineup

1. Kreg 20v Rebel Pocket Hole Joiner Combo for Cordless Pocket Screws

The Kreg 20v Rebel launched the Kreg 20V Blue Ion platform last year and pulled pocket hole joinery into a fully cordless tool. It combines a Kreg jig, a drill, and a driver into one tool that clamps, drills, and drives without a separate setup.

For anyone building cabinets, face frames, or shop furniture, the Rebel cuts a huge amount of setup time out of pocket hole work. It also shares batteries with the new Kreg Edge, so one battery platform now covers pocket holes and loose tenons.

The combo comes with battery and charger to get you into the Blue Ion platform right out of the gate.

2. Kreg 20v Track Saw Combo for Cordless Sheet Good Breakdown

The Kreg 20v Track Saw brings cordless track saw cuts into the same battery family as the Rebel and the Kreg Edge. Track saws have become the go to for accurate sheet good breakdown in shops that do not have room for a full size table saw.

For cabinet builders and furniture makers, a cordless track saw plus the Kreg Edge covers a huge portion of casework and panel joinery on one battery. The combo includes battery and charger.

This is the kind of pairing that turns a garage shop into a real production space.

3. Kreg 20v Starter Combo with 2Ah Battery for New Platform Buyers

The Starter Combo is the easiest way to get into the Kreg 20V Blue Ion platform if you do not own any Kreg cordless tools yet. It bundles a starter tool with a 2Ah battery and charger for a lower entry price.

Once you have the battery, everything else on the platform, including the Kreg Edge, becomes a bare tool purchase. That saves real money as you build the kit out.

Best for woodworkers who plan to add multiple Kreg 20V tools over time.

4. Kreg 20v Trim Router for Edge Work and Small Joinery

The Kreg 20v Trim Router handles edge trimming, roundovers, chamfers, dadoes, and small joinery cuts. Cordless trim routers have become one of the most reached for tools in the woodworking shop because they move fast between operations.

Pairing the trim router with the Kreg Edge covers a large slice of furniture joinery on a single battery platform. Loose tenons for structure, trim routing for finish work.

A solid pickup for anyone building furniture, cabinets, or custom trim.

5. Kreg 20v 1/4 in Impact Driver for Pocket Screws and Assembly

The Kreg 20v 1/4 in Impact Driver is built for pocket hole screws, cabinet assembly, and general fastener driving. Pairing it with the Kreg 20v Rebel makes a full pocket hole workflow cordless on one battery family.

Impact drivers earn their spot in every shop by handling repetitive screw work without wrist fatigue. The Kreg version keeps the platform consistent for woodworkers already on Blue Ion.

Great for assembly stations, cabinet installs, and shop builds.

6. Kreg 20v Jigsaw for Curved Cuts and Detail Work

The Kreg 20v Jigsaw takes on curved cuts, cutouts, sink openings, and shape work in the shop. Cordless jigsaws are handy for pattern cutting, template work, and general detail cuts that a circular saw cannot handle.

On the Kreg 20V platform, it fills the curved cut role while the circular saws handle straight cuts and the Kreg Edge handles joinery.

Best for woodworkers doing pattern work, curved furniture, or repair jobs.

7. Kreg 20v 7-1/4 inch Circular Saw for Framing and Shop Cuts

The Kreg 20v 7-1/4 inch Circular Saw runs a standard blade size that most woodworkers already stock. It handles framing lumber, plywood, and general shop breakdown work.

For anyone building shop projects, garden structures, or doing rough carpentry alongside furniture work, this covers the heavier cutting on the same battery platform as the Kreg Edge.

Solid choice for a garage shop or a job site truck.

8. Kreg 20v 4-1/2 inch Circular Saw for One Handed Cuts

The Kreg 20v 4-1/2 inch Circular Saw is a compact one handed circular saw for quick cuts, plywood breakdown, and small stock work. Compact circular saws have exploded in popularity because they fit in tight places and reduce fatigue on repetitive cuts.

It pairs well with the track saw for detail cuts and works great as a secondary saw for cabinet builders and remodelers.

A smart pickup for finish carpenters and shop woodworkers who need a lightweight saw.

9. Kreg 20v 5-inch Random Orbit Sander for Finish Sanding

The Kreg 20v 5-inch Random Orbit Sander brings finish sanding into the Blue Ion platform. Cordless sanders free you from dragging a cord across a project during finishing work.

Sanding is one of the most time consuming steps in furniture building, so pulling it onto the same battery family as the Kreg Edge keeps the whole workflow cordless.

Best for woodworkers who value a clean, quiet, cord free workflow.

10. Kreg 20v Oscillating Multi-Tool for Detail and Repair Cuts

The Kreg 20v Oscillating Multi-Tool handles flush cuts, plunge cuts, undercuts on door jambs, and detail work in tight places. Multi tools are one of those items that sit quietly in the tool box until you need them, and then they save the day.

For remodelers, cabinet installers, and DIYers, this is a strong add to the Kreg 20V platform.

Best for anyone who runs into repair work, install adjustments, or detail cuts on the regular.

11. Kreg Blue Ion 20v 4Ah Battery for Longer Runtime

The Kreg Blue Ion 20v 4Ah Battery is the higher capacity option for the Kreg 20V platform. Larger amp hour batteries give you longer runtime on high draw tools like the Kreg Edge, the track saw, and the circular saws.

For longer shop sessions, this is the battery to keep on the charger while you run a second one on the tool.

Best for woodworkers running the Kreg Edge or Kreg 20v saws for extended cuts.

12. Kreg 20v Blue Ion 2Ah Battery for Compact Balance

The Kreg 20v Blue Ion 2Ah Battery keeps the tool light and balanced for finesse work. Smaller batteries help on tools like the trim router, the impact driver, and the multi tool where weight matters more than runtime.

Most Kreg 20V users end up with a mix of 2Ah and 4Ah batteries so they can match the battery to the task.

A smart backup or first battery for anyone building into the platform.

13. Kreg 20v Fast Charger for Blue Ion Batteries

The Kreg 20v Fast Charger keeps Blue Ion batteries topped off between operations. Fast chargers cut real time out of a shop day when you are running one battery on a Kreg Edge and swapping to a fresh one to keep working.

Anyone running multiple Kreg 20V tools should keep at least one fast charger on the bench.

Essential for woodworkers with two or more Blue Ion batteries in rotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Kreg Edge loose tenon joiner cost?

The Kreg Edge is priced at $449 for the bare tool and $499 for the combo kit with a battery. That puts it well under the Festool Domino, which typically runs around $1,500 for the DF 500. That price gap is the biggest reason this release matters.

Is the Kreg Edge as good as the Festool Domino?

After hands on time with the Kreg Edge, it stacks up very well against my Festool Domino. The base is roughly a third bigger, the fence is wider and longer, and the cuts came out tight and pound in worthy. For the price, it opens loose tenon joinery to woodworkers who never could justify the Festool.

Are Kreg Edge cutters compatible with the Festool Domino?

Yes. Kreg confirmed that the cutters are cross compatible. Kreg Edge cutters will work in a Festool Domino, and Festool cutters will work in the Kreg Edge. Kreg offers 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm cutters. The tenons stay metric to match what is already on the market.

Does the Kreg Edge need dust collection?

No. The Kreg Edge has dust collection slots on the bottom that let it run without a vacuum hooked up. If you plan to cut a lot of mortises in one session, you can still add dust collection through the port. The Festool Domino requires a vacuum to operate.

What battery does the Kreg Edge use?

The Kreg Edge runs on the Kreg 20V Blue Ion battery platform. The same battery powers the Kreg 20v Rebel pocket hole joiner, the Kreg 20v track saw, the trim router, the circular saws, and the rest of the Kreg 20V lineup. One battery covers pocket holes, loose tenons, and everything in between.

Does the Kreg Edge work with metric or imperial measurements?

It works with both. The material thickness scale ships in imperial units for U.S. woodworkers, and a metric version of the slider is included in the box. The plunge depth adjustments on the side are in metric to match the metric tenons that Kreg uses.
